An entry level course introducing candidates to the world of wine. The course is designed to give confidence to new and inexperienced employees working in a wine sales and service environments to provide a positive guest experience.

This is Part One of the Wine Sales Professional Certificate

Course details:

Candidates will be given fundamental wine knowledge to enhance how they communicate with guests. Coupled with practical service skills it will give employees the very best start in their wine career.

  • Alcohol awareness – an important first step to improving behaviour and promoting responsible alcohol use.
  • History of wine – where did wine come from and how did it get here, from Van Riebeeck to one of the world’s great wine countries.
  • Introduction to viticulture and climate – understanding the influences that go to making great wine.
  • Basic wine making – learning the basics of how grapes are made into wine – white, red, rosé and sparkling.
  • Main grapes of South African wine – giving confidence to talk about wine from an informed perspective.
  • Discovery wine tasting – developing a basic understanding of what wine tasting is all about and appreciating why grape variety matters.
  • Wine service etiquette – practical experience on serving wine in a professional wine environment
